mission statement
The Adelphi University School of Social Work prepares graduates to practice ethically and effectively in a variety of cultural and social contexts upon entering the profession and throughout their careers. Through our student-centered curriculum, faculty scholarships, and community-based programs, we provide leadership to develop knowledge, skills, and values for the profession. We are committed to improving human well-being, advancing human rights and advancing social justice for individuals and communities at the regional, national and global levels.
Of
- To offer a program of study that challenges students to integrate the knowledge, skills and values of the profession so that they can deepen their commitment to social and economic justice and practice as ethical and competent social workers with diverse, often oppressed populations in a multicultural society and ;
- promote faculty scholarships that inform and advance social work theory, practice, and policy in professional social work and in multidisciplinary fields impacting social welfare, and;
- Initiate, consult and collaborate with relevant community members and leaders to identify and address unmet or emerging needs and improve organizational capabilities, programs and services.
Professional philosophy for the Department of Social Work
Social work is a profession that aims to alleviate human suffering. He stands for social justice and is committed to solving social problems at the individual, group and community level. Guided by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics and a belief that people have the potential to change their lives individually and collectively, she uses professional knowledge to make changes that translate into a better quality of life for individuals and communities. This commitment is based on the premise that people, individually and collectively, can be redeemed and that strategies for improving and restoring social functioning can be both discovered and learned. Multidisciplinary arts and science knowledge is essential for the training of social workers because the profession requires skilled people who are familiar with a wide range of ideas and information. Social work education is based on the belief that environmental influences influence human development and well-being and that this should be taken into account when assessing behavior and life situations.
Education program in the field
Field training teaches students to apply the theory and knowledge gained in the classroom to the practice of social work in institutions. During the internship, students develop their professional skills and competences in practice. On-site training gives you the opportunity to work directly with people and communities in staffing agencies. The different ways of practicing include working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. All internships are awarded by the field education department and students are expected to adhere to the department's policies and procedures. They are listed in detailHandbook of field pedagogy in social workI am internet.
Completing internship students must also adhere to agency hours and policies and practices. Fieldwork classes start in September and last until the January holidays, although most students do not attend classes. The internship ends for Foundation and Advanced students after 600 hours of work in an academic year. Undergraduate students complete 300 hours and seniors 400 hours per academic year. During the break in January, students are advised to consider the availability of housing and any financial obligations for that period. The student is responsible for arranging transport to and from the practice. The field service always takes the means of transport of the student into account when looking for an internship. Although the school offers internships with evening classes, all students must be available for at least one full day or two half-days during the week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
Students cannot provide their own place to study. If a student has an agency they would like to recommend for internships, they can provide the agency's name to the Field Education Department and the Field Education Department will contact the agency directly to arrange an internship. Discuss the possibility of an internship with the student. There is a formal process to secure internships, including completing a field education application. Students should meet with their supervisor or liaison prior to meeting with the Field Education Department. Internship planning meetings are also offered to students. This gives them the opportunity to learn more about the internship and the information available and needed. Once the agency has been identified, the student will be notified by the faculty to schedule a confirmation call with the agency. Upon confirmation, the student, agency, field instructor, and contact will receive an assignment letter via email. This letter contains all the contact details of the above parties and the start and end date of your fieldwork internship.

The student is placed in separate desks for each year. The junior year focuses on a variety of social work practices, client groups and service delivery systems. The tasks support the learning of basic practical skills and entry into the social worker profession. Final year students emphasize developing basic practical skills for working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
Graduate field instruction
As part of foundation year field internships, students complete a minimum of 600 hours of fieldwork with an emphasis on developing basic practical skills to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. In the case of advanced year field exercises, students also complete a minimum of 600 hours of fieldwork in advanced direct social work practice. Advanced Standing students are certified B.S.W. to the program. degree and must do an internship in an advanced year. In some cases, Advanced Standing students may be required to take additional classes or other core courses if the candidate's curriculum is found to differ significantly from the Adelphi Foundation curriculum. One-year residency students (OYR) must attend a four-credit specialized seminar.SWK 601, concurrently with the Foundation's practical courses, and complete 900 hours of advanced year fieldwork concurrently with the advanced social work practice courses. OYR students already have extensive experience in this field under the tutelage of LMSW or LCSW.
